Hort Connections 2018 Wrap Up

Hort Connections 2018 saw around 2,900 people from all parts of the fresh produce supply chain gather in Brisbane for three days of networking and in-depth discussion around all things fruit, veg and floral.

Records were smashed across the board with delegates, sponsors (50) and exhibitors (198) well up from last year’s Adelaide conference.

The enormous and bustling tradeshow was a notable highlight for many. Others touted the plenary sessions which featured slick presentations from experts both in and outside of produce.

‘Doubling productivity and halving waste’ was the conference mantra and this year’s focus. The theme set the conversation throughout the event with the speakers tackling it from a number of directions. Trade show exhibitors added another layer showing the various commercial applications.

Investment into sustainability, innovation and technology, particularly in the packaging space, was great to see.

The PMA A-NZ Fresh Perspectives – Effecting Change workshop engaged a full house in a discussion around the importance of considering diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The workshop was the first of what will hopefully be a swag of resources for members looking to get the most out of themselves and surrounding team.

As is always the case, the more glamorous events, the various networking drinks and Gala dinner, saw many exchange ideas and business cards well into the early hours.

A big congratulations to T&G Global who took out this year’s Marketer of the Year award at the dinner – for their stellar campaign for ‘Lotatoes Potatoes’.
