CHEP Australia supports a better functioning supply chain for Antonello Produce and Wholesalers

Antonello Produce is a family owned wholesaler of potatoes, watermelons, onions, pumpkins and sweet potatoes at the Melbourne Wholesale Markets. Established in 2006 by three brothers and their father, the business has grown into a leading supplier of fresh produce across Australia for a major retailer and the food service / hospitality industry.

With access to over 60 growers across Australia, Antonello Produce has strategically focused on partnering with niche growers and agents who can be relied on.

To safely handle and move their fresh produce, Antonello Produce rely on CHEP’s Gen 3 RPCs. These sustainable platforms enable them to deliver fresher produce that lasts longer on the shelf. They also provide a cost effective, one touch solution that flows seamlessly from their business through to their major retail customer’s stores across Australia.

Accessing the right CHEP platform at the right time was identified as a challenge for Antonello Produce and other wholesalers at the markets located in Epping. At the core of this challenge was the travel required to source CHEP’s Gen 3 RPCs from the Derrimut service centre, located approximately 30 kilometres away.

The Solution

After analysing the movements to and from wholesalers like Antonello Produce and their customers, CHEP identified an opportunity to broaden the availability of their platforms onsite at the markets to include RPCs, as well as timber pallets.

This report identified that some wholesalers had been overstocking to meet demand and that there was an opportunity to relocate CHEP platforms to optimise their supply chains.

The Results

Like other wholesalers at the Melbourne Wholesale Markets, Antonello Produce are now able to pick up and return CHEP’s RPCs at the Epping site. This has meant that they have reduced their operating costs, which were previously incurred for transport and holding stock in anticipation of orders.

By having better access to these platforms at the markets and in closer proximity to their operations, Antonello Produce have been better able to meet customer requirements. Mr Antonello says, “With improved access to platforms when we need them, we’re able to turnaround our produce faster to meet our customer requirements. This also assists build our reputation within the marketplace as a leading, reliable wholesaler.”

“CHEP continues to be a great partner to work with in the supply chain. Their team provides us with proactive support and communication to ensure that our business runs smoothly.”
