Sustainability: Trends in the Fresh Produce Industry and ROI
Career Pathways Student Report - PMA Fresh Summit 2011
This report describes a study tour that looked at the innovations and trends in global fresh produce as witnessed at the 2011 PMA Fresh Summit held in Atlanta, Georgia Oct 14-17 2011. University of Queensland third year Agribusiness students Belinda Boshammer and Allana McIntyre attended the PMA Fresh Summit as part of the Career Pathways Program, a scholarship program run by the PMA Foundation for Industry Talent. This report was requested as part of that study trip with the brief aimed at obtaining the students’ perspectives on sustainability trends in fresh produce, and the resulting ROI.

This report describes a study tour that looked at the innovations and trends in global fresh produce as witnessed at the 2010 PMA Fresh Summit held in Orlando, Florida Oct 15-18 2010. University of Queensland third year Agribusiness students Claire Wookey and Nigel Solomon attended the PMA Fresh Summit as part of the PMA Foundation for Industry Talent (FIT) program. This report was requested as part of that study trip with the brief aimed at obtaining the students’ perspectives on fresh produce trends from other countries in comparison to domestic, and to identify ways to translate the American PMA FIT program into an Australian format for PMA Australia/New Zealand.

ABARE: Australian vegetable growing farms: an economic survey, 2008-09
Publication date: 25 Nov 2010| This report contains results from the latest of the ABARE-BRS surveys conducted on behalf of Horticulture Australia Ltd. The survey was conducted from April to July 2010 and collected comprehensive data on the physical, financial and socioeconomic characteristics of vegetable farms in 2008-09 and 2009-10. The information contained in this report will help in making decisions on research and development initiatives and policy affecting the future direction and growth of the Australian vegetable industry.

DAFF Evaluation of the Citrus Market Diversification Program
The Citrus Market Diversification program was commissioned by the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to improve the competitiveness of the Citrus Industry. The evaluation was required to address the perceived and actual outcomes of the program, how effectively the objectives were achieved and how effectively and efficiently the program was delivered. It also identified future opportunities for the citrus industry.

Future Focus Report
Future Focus is the Australian horticulture industry strategic plan, conducted by HAL. It will position the entire horticulture industry to proactively address future challenges and give the industry a strategic path for future growth. Future Focus will direct the industry’s attention to opportunities that will increase profitability, whilst concentrating on building whole of industry approaches to aid commodity specific plans. One of Future Focus’ aims is to balance a long term strategy with immediate industry concerns. Conducted on the same basis as its Australian counterpart, the Rabobank Rural Confidence Survey (New Zealand) has been conducted since 2003. It is administered by independent research agency TNS Conversa, interviewing a panel of 450 farmers each quarter.
