The Australia and New Zealand Food Regulation Ministerial Council
The Ministerial Council is primarily responsible for the development of domestic food regulatory policy and the development of policy guidelines for setting domestic food standards. The current domestic food regulatory system has been operating since 1 July 2002 to protect public health, while providing an environment to allow industry innovation.

 

Australia

Agricultrual and Veterinary Chemicals Code Act 1994
Agvet chemicals are well regulated to ensure they are used properly and do not harm humans and non-target animals and plants. The definitions of agvet chemicals are set out here.

Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC)
The ACCC promotes competition and fair trade in the market place to benefit consumers, businesses and the community. It also regulates national infrastructure services. Its primary responsibility is to ensure that individuals and businesses comply with the Commonwealth competition, fair trading and consumer protection laws. 

ACCC Horticulture Code of Conduct, compliance information & guidelines
The ACCC Horticulture Code of Conduct is a mandatory code that regulates trade in horticulture produce between growers and wholesale traders (except for exporters, retailers and processors). 

DAFF Chemical Regulation Information
This page provides information relating to the regulation of agricultural and veterinary chemicals.

DAFF Export Levy Guidelines & Information for Horticulture
There are currently over 20 horticulture commodities with a levy and/or an export charge.

DAFF Guidelines for Implementing EUREPGAP for Australian Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Producers 2004
This report was commissioned by DAFF to provide exporters of Australian horticultural produce with a clearer picture of the requirements of the European retail market.

DAFF Horticulture Code of Conduct
The mandatory code of conduct for the horticulture wholesale sector was introduced on 14 May 2007. The purpose of the code is to improve the clarity and transparency of transactions between growers and wholesalers of fresh fruit and vegetables.

DAFF Horticulture Market Access Committee
The Horticulture Market Access Committee (HMAC) oversees market access issues for the horticultural industry (fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts, cut-flower and nursery production); coordinates planning in consultation with industry and Biosecurity Australia; and advises Biosecurity Australia on national market access issues priorities for horticultural produce.

DAFF Horticulture Policy: Horticulture Fact Sheet October 2008
The Horticulture Fact Sheet provides information on industry production and export statistics in addition to Commonwealth Government programs and activities that are working to ensure the industry’s continued profitability.

DAFF Levies Principles & Guidelines
These guidelines aim to help industry bodies prepare a sound case for a levy or charge to be considered by industry members.

GS1 standards for Numbering and Barcoding of pre packaged goods, non retail trade items and logistics units
The Fresh Produce Industry has adopted the GS1 standards for Numbering and Barcoding of pre packaged goods, non retail trade items and logistics units. In addition GS1 Australia manages on behalf of industry, Price Look Up Codes and a catalogue of National Global Trade Item Numbers for Non Retail Trade Units of Loose Produce.

Guidelines for On-farm Food Safety for Fresh Produce 2004
The guidelines are designed for use by growers, packers, auditors, trainers, facilitators, consultants and customers to achieve greater certainty and consistency in the development, implementation and auditing of on-farm food safety programs.

 

New Zealand

NZ Novachem Agrichemical Website: Spraybible
AgriMedia have brought together the Novachem and Agrichemical manuals into a single website, creating the only definitive guide to registered agrichemicals in New Zealand. This site includes a searchable index or 'roadmap' to the New Zealand Agrichemical Manual, and tells you everything from whether a product is listed in the Agrichemical Manual and the product category to the location of the product listing.

USDA Foreign Agricultural Service: Food and Agricultural Import Regulations and Standards (FAIRS) - Narrative | Country Report - New Zealand
This report was prepared by the Office of Agricultural Affairs of the USDA/Foreign Agricultural Service in Wellington, New Zealand for U.S. exporters of domestic food and agricultural products.  It outlines regulatory requirements for food and agricultural products exported to New Zealand. The sections on food laws, food packaging materials, and copyright and trademarks laws have been updated since the last report.
